We believe that homework is important because it:

• Helps children become independent and disciplined learners
• Encourages children to organise their learning
• It takes learning into the home to be shared

Homework takes a variety of forms, most of which encourage parental involvement; for example, hearing children read, helping them learn spellings or times tables, supporting them in their topic work, answering questionnaires, shared maths investigations or games.

Reading tips:  When listening to your child read, please encourage them to discuss what they have read. You may ask them about how a character is feeling, about what they think may happen next or what is happening and why. 

All children, regardless of their age, enjoy having books read to them. Sharing a book with your child really helps them to discuss characters and books, understand stories and develop a love of reading. It is also a lovely way to end the day.
